A California airport takes tourists back to a time when relatives could meet them at the gate.

According to the airport, the Ontario International Airport, located approximately 40 miles east of Los Angeles, will launch a new initiative that will enable non-travellers to obtain an online visitor card and access the terminal's post-security area. 
Then, these non-travellers can either wait for loved ones at the gate or visit them before they leave.

One can utilise the free ONT+ programme as a ticket to pass through TSA security checkpoints.

According to Dean Brown, the ONT Public Safety Administrator, "we all remember the excitement of being able to meet arriving relatives and friends as they step off the plane." 
"ONT+ offers a method to safely and securely relive part of that experience from decades ago."

Non-travellers must submit an online application within seven days of their scheduled visit to be granted a pass. 
To them, after it has been accepted. 
ONT+ visitor passes that have been printed won't be honoured.

The same TSA security regulations for travellers will now apply to non-travellers, including not bringing many liquids. 
The ONT+ pass is not currently compatible with TSA PreCheck or Clear.

This flashback transports visitors to a time before 9/11 when it was feasible to accompany loved ones to and from the gate.

The most recent airport to provide this service is the Ontario International Airport. 
SEA Visitor Passes are currently available at Seattle Tacoma International Airport, allowing unticketed travellers to register for access to the secure portion of the airport. 
At other airports, including Pittsburgh International Airport and Tampa International Airport, they have since been halted.
