Activities this weekend in London from January 2–8, 2023

2023-01-05  Diana Solomon

Please verify what is open before going into our general guide to the finest things to do in London year-round for further suggestions.

We come up with a ton of activities to do and strategies to help the independent businesses in the capital each week. These are our best suggestions this week, which range from cultural events to gourmet gatherings.

What to do this weekend in London

1 Constant

1. Experience a tropical lunch

Mayfair restaurant Amazónico opens a series of live music lunches intended to uplift spirits, and get rid of the January blues there. On Fridays and Saturdays, Latin bands perform live, upbeat jazz and blues shows in the tropical surroundings. Atun okinamasu with Caviar (toro tuna tartar, coconut, and baerii vintage caviar), guacamole con erizo (guacamole, sea urchin, and green plantain crisp), and traditional, 26-day dry-aged Hereford steaks are some of the South American meals offered on the menu.

Address: 10 Berkeley Square, Amazónico, London, W1J 6BR

Dates: Every Friday and Saturday in January.

2. Consume superfoods.

Drake and Morgan's locations are this month's go-to for fresh cocktails with a twist, whether you already shattered your dry January goals over the weekend or decided to skip it this year entirely. A brand-new superfood cocktail menu is available at one of the group's 17 establishments around the capital, including The Sipping Room, The Happenstance, and The Folly. There is a drink for every resolve, including the Tommy's Margarita with its vitamin-rich spirulina and the Mushroom Espresso Martini with its use of adaptogens. Enjoy a superfood sharing board with delicacies like toasted almond buckwheat, kimchi, kale pesto, and pickled carrots if Veganuary is in the cards.

Cocktails cost about £10 apiece; in January, two superfood cocktails and a shared board cost £29.95.

Dates: Through January 31.

3 Down Under

3. Brunch as they do it Down Under

Although January is typically the month to give up alcohol, we think you should still allow yourself some pleasure. Then there are Daisy Green's tea-total brunches, a two-course meal with free-flowing, organically fermented sparkling tea created in partnership with Real Drink. All other brunch favorites are still available, like gourmet bacon rolls, smashed avocado, and freshly poached eggs on top of charcoal sourdough slices.

4 carnivorous deal

4. Get a carnivorous deal

As the Argentinian steakhouses take us back to the era of the dine-out-to-help-out plan, Gaucho has unveiled an inflation-busting deal across its London branches this month. Dine Monday through Wednesday and receive £10 off orders of £40 or more. Enjoy flame-grilled steaks from sirloin to chateaubriand drenched in a delicious sauce of your choosing, such as chipotle BBQ, peppercorn, or blue cheese, among other South American specialties. Although there are many more options, like crisp and herbaceous king mushroom salads and black truffle-filled gnocchi, steak fans are especially well-supplied.

5 Enjoy an adrenaline rush

5. Experience an adrenaline rush

The family will need choices to keep them occupied during the sometimes gloomy weeks of January, and Gravity Wandsworth offers them. Modern virtual reality experiences are available throughout the three-story structure, transporting players into alternate universes filled with zombies, pirates, and snowball-pelting yetis. In another location, a 14-lane bowling alley is ideal for boisterous intergenerational rivalry, while an elevated e-kart track welcomes thrill-seekers. For those eschewing the idea entirely, Newtons Bar, a New York-style cocktail bar, offers a variety of mocktails in addition to the standard libations during dry January.

6. Get on the roofs

Start your resolutions for a healthy new year off right this weekend at One Hundred Shoreditch, where the hotel is introducing several brand-new fitness sessions in association with Retroglow Studios. Alternate weeks of Pilates to '80s power ballads or '90s LIIT, followed by brunch on the newly renovated, covered rooftop area. Enjoy a French breakfast topped with luscious peaches and Turkish eggs while admiring the cityscape from Shoreditch's rooftops.

7. Enter a fresh opening

The newest restaurant to open at Battersea Power Station's lofty penthouses features floor-to-ceiling windows and an impressive terrace. Since it just opened, Tozi Major Cafe has been serving up decadent delicacies in a setting modeled after the grand cafés of Europe, and the neighborhood's inhabitants and joyous tourists have been eating. On weekends, baked eggs and Cicchetti dishes are accompanied by Negronis, Bellinis, and seasonal spritzes. On winter evenings, the restaurant is filled with the aroma of braised wild boar and pappardelle with halibut.

8. Bring everyone to Greenwich

Cutty Sark is once again serving as home to several fascinating activities after a successful series of events in December. Before seeing the pleasure on children's cheeks as they play dress up and turn into sailors of the past for the day, meet characters from the ship's history, and have a sing-along with resident sea shanty singers. Learn about the simple tea leaf and its journey from plant to bag this weekend as well. Then, make your particular blend and create a custom Cutty Sark mug to take home as a souvenir.

9. Incorporate mindfulness.

With a day of health and mindfulness activities planned by MindFULL creator Lily Silverton, the London Edition may start the new year on a zen note. Lily's customized experience days, created to inspire fitness enthusiasts for the upcoming year, are informed by her more than 25 years of expertise in the field. The day begins with a tea ceremony and is followed by sound healing workshops, yoga for all levels, and meditation breathwork sessions, all of which are interspersed by a sumptuous brunch meal in the Punch Room. Food, drinks, and snacks are provided; however, you'll need to bring your yoga mats and blankets.

10. Get a deal while you still can

You don't need to have a large budget to enjoy Mediterranean Cavo, the first popular new restaurant of the year that is situated in the center of the brand-new Tottenham Court Road development The Outernet. The idea is not new, even though the space is. Following his success in Greece and Spain, founder Ivo Dimitrov turned his attention to London. Scallops in Champagne are a decadent meal, and tapas plates provide a tongue-tingling escape to the most stunning European shores. The majority of the menu is divided into two sections: the seafood and raw bar and the Josper grilled meats menu. For those with a sweet appetite, puddings like the charred Basque cheesecake are a great way to end the meal. Best of all, when you dine during the first week of January, take advantage of a special 50% discount offer on their comprehensive menu.

Location: Cavo, The Now Building, Outernet, Denmark Street, London WC2H 0LA

URL: cavorestaurant.com

Dates: For the first week of January, there is a 50% discount on all a la carte reservations; contact the restaurant for further details.
