Pickleball, a combination of tennis, ping pong, and badminton, has emerged as the American sport with the fastest rate of growth, claims a 2022 report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. Nationally, there are around 5 million players, up almost 40% from 2020. Pickleball may possibly be introduced to the Olympics in 2028 as a demonstration sport, according to a rumour.

Played on a court that is about one-fourth the size of a regular tennis court, pickleball is a scaled-down version of doubles tennis. The popularity of the sport is a result of how simple it is to play and learn. For instance, the game's perorated ball is easier to smash because it doesn't bounce or move as quickly as a tennis ball. Playing pickleball also requires less moving around and covering of terrain. A tennis court may accommodate four pickleball courts if it is at least 60 feet wide. You are physically closer to both your opponent and teammate when playing pickleball (most players play doubles). Pickleball is a social activity that draws participants of all ages and races. Since games are shorter than tennis matches and go to 11 points, players have more time to interact with one another and play more games with various opponents.

American hotels are paying attention as pickleball explodes in popularity. While some hotels are building new pickleball courts just for the sport, several have outfitted their existing tennis courts for the game. Additionally, many hotels are include pickleball clinics and private and group lessons with on-staff pickleball pros on their daily activity schedules.

When pickleball's popularity skyrocketed, Curtis Bova, general manager of the Hilton Denver Inverness, which is about 20 miles from downtown Denver, made the decision to turn the property's existing tennis courts area into pickleball courts. Pickleball paddles and balls can be rented from the hotel, and visitors can reserve one-hour time slots to play on the courts. The hotel intends to launch its pickleball programming, which will include clinics, lessons, and round-robin competitions, in 2023. "We have had the opportunity to promote this new sport to our hotel guests by adding pickleball courts to Hilton Denver Inverness' extensive array of facilities," stated Bova. "The weekend saw a lot of visitors who were there for leisure. We believe that when more content is provided, demand will only increase."

Pickleball is offered at the Hotel McCoy in Pullman, Washington, and Tucson, Arizona. According to Nicole Dahl, president and creative director at Hotel McCoy, "In the past year, guests have requested pickleball court information at least five times as often as they did last year, and more so at our Tucson location, alerting us to the fact that pickleball is picking up steam, especially with travellers in warm-weather locations." Pickleball will also be available at the newest hotel in the series when it opens in College Station, Texas, in the spring of 2023. Pickleball was the first suggestion made when the planning for amenities at our Texas location got under way, according to Dahl. The College Station hotel will host tournaments for both visitors and residents and provide equipment for pick-up games, similar to its sibling hotels in Arizona and Washington. Additionally, the hotel will host the yearly festival "In a Pickle at Hotel McCoy."Pickleball, a combination of tennis, ping pong, and badminton, has emerged as the American sport with the fastest rate of growth, claims a 2022 report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. Pickleball was a major wager for the Plaza Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas. With 12 permanent courts and one grandstand-style championship court that can be divided into four temporary tournament-level courts, the hotel has the most pickleball courts of any property in Las Vegas. The courts were added in 2016 as part of the hotel's multimillion-dollar refurbishment. The area was formerly utilised for basketball and tennis.

The CEO of the hotel, Jonathan Jossel, said: "We observed how popular pickleball was becoming as a leisure sport back in 2016." "In order to differentiate the Plaza as the best pickleball destination in Las Vegas, we added pickleball courts when we chose to remodel our rooftop pool and leisure deck. Now, both amateur and professional players from all over the world are welcome to play on the courts, whether it be as part of a scheduled tournament, a weekly clinic, or just for enjoyment while on vacation."

On Thursday nights and Saturday mornings, the hotel provides free pickleball instruction for up to 30 people. The hotel holds the annual Las Vegas Pickleball Open in September, which draws hundreds of top players from across the world.

The Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale in Arizona renovated its tennis courts and added four pickleball courts with ProBounce technology, which is intended to keep players cool and lessen physical stress. The use of pickleball paddles and balls is free for visitors. Additionally provided are weekly workshops and private instruction. The ADERO Scottsdale Resort offers six pickleball courts and rental equipment for daily play, and the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa has 17 new, professionally-surfaced pickleball courts and full-time pickleball certified instructors on staff for private and semi-private lessons. Both resorts are embracing the pickleball trend. Using the resort's own, specially designed Recess Pickleball paddles will help players step up their pickleball skills. If you live in the region, the resort now offers pickleball monthly and annual memberships that come with free lessons and rating evaluations, paddle demos, 50% off guest accommodation rates, and more (if you are a local).

Due to its pleasant climate and large number of pickleball courts, Florida is often regarded as the pickleball capital of the world. Four pickleball courts are now available in The Boca Raton on Florida's east coast, about 20 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale. These courts can be used for clinics, open play, scheduled evening socials, and competitions. The director of pickleball at the hotel accepts reservations for lessons. On the 60-acre island of Duck Key in the Florida Keys, there are new pickleball courts as well. The Hawk Cay Resort opened eight new courts at its Cliff Drysdale Tennis facility in January.

It won't be difficult for you to stay active on your upcoming trip as pickleball's popularity grows. The trend of hotels building pickleball courts or converting existing tennis courts into pickleball will last as long as pickleball continues to be simple to learn, low impact, and appealing to a wide spectrum of individuals, from kids to senior citizens. Pickleball will probably be a common amenity the next time you book a hotel stay, just like a pool or fitness centre.

A Pickleball Concierge of Your Own?
The Tryall Club in Jamaica has started a new pickleball concierge programme since pickleball there is so well-liked. You can ask for a pickleball concierge when you make your hotel reservations, and they will help you with court and lesson appointments. Additionally, the concierge will bring equipment like paddles, balls, and individually sized athletic wear like skirts, blouses, and visors to your room. The pickleball concierge will coordinate with your villa's chef to provide wholesome food and drinks that you can enjoy off the court after your match.
