Pantone's Color of the Year for 2023 Is a Surprisingly Delightful Surprise for Travelers: Here Are Some Places You Can Find It All Over the World

2023-01-15  Maliyah Mah

Pantone has selected Viva Magenta as the cooler of the year for 2023, and you can see examples of it all across the world, from the Netherlands to Vietnam.

Pantone

Pantone is much like the rest of us in the sense that they are also deciding what they want their year to be like — one that is brimming with vitality and strength. According to Pantone, the Color of the Year for 2023 will be Viva Magenta, which is a vibrant magenta shade that exudes confidence and strength. "Viva Magenta is courageous and bold, and it is a throbbing color whose enthusiasm fosters a cheerful and hopeful celebration... [It] revels in pure excitement, enabling experimentation and self-expression without constraint." We think that a year that is filled with happiness and opportunities for self-expression is a year well spent.

Fortunately, you will be able to find this color all over the place during your travels. The palatial hotels of Dubai to the salt pans off the coast of Portugal: these are just some of the locations throughout the world that feature the Pantone Color of the Year 2023.

Netherlands

Netherlands

Keukenhof, commonly referred to as the Garden of Europe, is home to some of the most exquisite and well-known flower varieties in the world. One of the greatest flower gardens in the world, Keukenhof is located in the Netherlands and is home to more than seven million individual flowers. It occupies a total area of 32 hectares, is situated near Lises, and can be accessed from The Hague, Haarlem, Leiden, and Amsterdam in approximately half an hour. Plan your trip to the Netherlands towards the middle of April to catch the tulips at their peak beauty. The season for tulips begins at the end of March and continues until the middle of May, but the flowers are often at their most beautiful around the middle of April. The caring and well-wishes represented by the pink tulip make it an ideal choice to usher in the new year with us.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini, Greece

Because the flight time from Amsterdam to Santorini is less than four hours, you can quickly transition from strolling through the rows of multicolored tulips in Amsterdam to viewing the blooming bougainvillea climbing the traditional white and blue houses that are found all around the Greek island of Santorini. Bougainvillea is one of the most well-liked flowers in Greece, and its flowers can be seen blooming at any time from early spring to late fall. And having the Aegean Sea in the background is the only thing that can really make a magenta bloom stand out.

Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam

On the outskirts of Hanoi lies a place called Quang Phi Chau, which is recognized as being one of the "incense villages." In Vietnam, the Lunar New Year is celebrated with a holiday known as Tet, and in the days leading up to the holiday, hundreds of bright pink incense sticks are arranged in bouquets along the streets and in the courtyards. Tet Nguyen Dan is the complete name of the holiday, and it literally translates to "feast of the first morning." Families light the pink-colored incense at the stroke of midnight on January 31, also known as the last day of the old year (ciao thus), in order to encourage gods and ancestors to congregate. After the last of the incense has been extinguished, everyone gathers together to share a meal and exchange well wishes for the next year. The month of January, just preceding the beginning of the Lunar New Year on February 1st, is by far the most ideal time to pay this cultural event a visit and participate in it.

Iceland

Iceland

The Nordic countries of Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, all of which sit within or near the Arctic Circle, are some of the greatest spots to observe the northern lights since they are located in close proximity to one another. Because Iceland is typically the least chilly of the group, it is slightly simpler to tolerate the freezing temperatures and enjoy the light show in the skies above. Due to the longer evenings, September through March is the optimal season for witnessing the northern lights, and pink auroras are far rarer than green ones. The best time to view the lights is from September through March. Be sure to stock up on coffee and keep a sharp eye out for them because they could show up at any time between the hours of twilight and dawn.

The city of Cape Town in South Africa

Bo-Kiap, which literally translates to "above the Cape," is a district in Cape Town that can be found near the base of Signal Hill. It is known for its vibrant coolers. The district, which was once known as the Malay Quarter, is currently the city's oldest residential neighborhood that has survived to the present day. It is also an important historical center of Cape Malay culture. It is rich in homes and mosques that date back to the 1700s, such as the Aural Mosque, which was constructed in 1794. Bo-Kiap is also the location of the largest collection of buildings constructed before 1850 in all of South Africa. Slaves from southeast Asia were originally granted leases on the homes in this neighborhood when it was first developed. While they were under the terms of the lease, they had to be painted white. As soon as this restriction was removed and people were able to buy homes, every one of them was given a coat of bright paint to signify the happiness and independence they felt.

India's Mysore

Mysore, India

An Indian spice bazaar is perhaps one of the best places to visit if you want to see a wide variety of bright coolers in one location. The well-known Devaraj Market in Mysore, India, is where one may purchase a wide variety of goods, including vibrant flowers, fresh fruits, and cones of brilliant Kumkum powder. In India, Kumkum powder is thrown into the air during Holi as part of the celebration of the festival of colors. It is also used for religious and social markers. The vibrant powder can be prepared with a number of indigenous components, which can result in a wide range of colors. However, the natural Kumkum is made with turmeric that has been processed with slaked lime, which results in the characteristically dark red colour.

Cusco, Peru

Cusco, Peru

In the Andes of Peru is where you'll find Rainbow Mountain, also referred to as Vinicunca in its indigenous language. Even though it seems like an attraction like this should have always been a part of history, it wasn't until 2015 that the snow covering melted away, revealing the naturally cultured mountain underneath. Although it feels like an attraction like this should have always been a part of history, it wasn't until 2015. The stratified colors of gold, lavender, scarlet, and turquoise were created when mineral sediments from the area accumulated over time, giving the area the appearance of a rainbow. It is recommended that you spend a few days in the area becoming acclimated to the high altitude before attempting a trek on Rainbow Mountain because it is more than 5,000 meters (about 16,000 feet) above sea level. Rainbow Mountain is located approximately 62 miles from the city Centre of Cusco. The months of June through August have the clearest skies and greatest weather for hiking, while the optimum time to go hiking is between the months of March and November.

Ria Formosa Natural Park, Portugal

Portugal

Without any intervention from humans, the salt flats in Portugal's Ria Formosa Natural Park transform from their typical ocean blue-green color to a shade of pink that is reminiscent to Pantone's Color of the Year 2023 on a few occasions each year, creating the illusion of a magical transformation. In reality, the formation of this natural occurrence is due to a type of algae that lives in salt lakes. It is the combination of the compounds that are created from this particular algae with the high salt concentration that is found in these pans that creates this one-of-a-kind color. Even better, the algae that can be found here attracts flamingos, which means that they are frequently seen in and near the saline waters from November until March.

Bur Al Arab Jumeirah, Dubai

Even while we adore being engulfed by Pantone's 2023 Color of the Year in its natural setting, one of our favourite ways to experience the colour is in the lap of luxury. Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, which was constructed on an artificial island in Dubai's Arabian Gulf, satisfies every description of the word "luxury," and its lavish Royal Suite, which spans 8,396 square feet and is located on the 25th level, takes the cake. The two-story suite includes a marble staircase and an elevator in addition to a sitting room, banquet hall, dining room, study, and primary bedroom where everything from the sheets on the rotating canopy bed to the floor-to-ceiling walls are covered in the jewel tone. Other features of the suite include a banquet hall, dining room, study, and study. Even if the bathroom isn't painted in Viva Magenta, the freestanding marble tub still deserves a mention in our book because of how beautiful it is.

Cranberry Highway, inside the State of Wisconsin

wisconsin-2.webp

Although Wisconsin is perhaps most famous for its cheese, the state also features miles upon miles of cranberry bogs. In point of fact, the state is responsible for producing more than half of the world's cranberries and almost sixty percent of those grown in the United States. Visitors will encounter the Cranberry Highway, which winds through wetlands that are hundreds of years old and spans a distance of fifty kilometers. The cranberry harvest takes place in the fall, notably from the end of September to the end of October. This means that the fall is the ideal time to take in the cranberry-magenta coolers, as well as participate in vine picking, tastings and samplings, tours, and visits to museums. In certain locations, such as the Wetherbee Cranberry Co. in the town of Warrens, you can even put on your own pair of waders and proceed straight into the water.

Havana, Cuba

The city of Havana is without a doubt one of the most vibrant and colorful towns in the entire globe. This city is a great place to see the Pantone Color of the Year because it is saturated with different hues of blue, purple, red, and pink. Vintage cars and historic buildings are all covered in these colors. Having said that, travelling to Cuba does involve some advance preparation; specifically, you will need a tourist card (or visa), insurance for your trip, and a self-certification that places you into one of the 12 travel categories that are approved for travel to Cuba.
