What to Know About Disney World's and Disneyland's Disability Access Services

Here's how Disneyland and Disney World's Disability Access Service (DAS) can assist visitors with impairments and their families.

Disney is constantly looking for ways to enhance the visitor experience at its theme parks, and this includes utilizing technology to make holidays more efficient. The new Disney Genie service at Walt Disney World and Disneyland has changed the game for those with impairments. Previously, the Disability Access Service (DAS) was only available in person, necessitating visitors to speak with a staff member at each destination they want to visit.

The service is significantly simpler to use thanks to the new DAS system, which is accessible through smartphone apps for Disneyland and Disney World. This is a component of the business's dedication to providing park visitors with inclusive and accessible experiences. The following information will help you use DAS on your upcoming Disney vacation.

Describe DAS.

The Handicap Access Service (DAS) is a program provided at the theme parks "to assist visitors who have trouble tolerating extended waits in a typical queuing environment due to a disability," according to the Disney World website. For guests who qualify (including those with cognitive and physical limitations) and up to five more members of their group, the DAS system allows them to plan return times for fast-track access to a variety of events.

How does DAS function?

Eligible visitors may sign up for DAS online before travel or in person at guest relations. Then, when visiting the parks, visitors can use the app to schedule their return times, either in advance or using the DAS planning option. The traditional approach of asking cast members in person for return times is still available to guests. It should be noted that visitors can only hold one active DAS return window at a time (except those formed with DAS Advance), however after the current one is used up, a new one can be chosen. Any reservations can be changed or canceled using the app for the relevant park. The guest with DAS must be present with the group at the return time when reservations are booked using the app.

It may be advisable to check in with a cast member, however, if the attraction uses a Lightning Lane, customers can scan in here for their return time. The return window is open until the park shuts, unlike the Disney Genie+ premium service, which only gives you a limited amount of time to exchange your experience.

Your DAS pass registration will remain in the system for 60 days after you submit it. After that, if you want to keep using DAS, you must renew.

How does DAS work?

The DAS system is designed to help visitors who struggle with lengthy attraction wait times in a traditional queue. The service is only available at the resort where the guest is registered, and it is not open to visitors with particular mobility challenges, including those who need a wheelchair. For instance, a visitor to Disneyland who has a DAS pass for Walt Disney World must register individually.

Preregistration can now be finished virtually through a live video conference with a cast member. Up to two days before arrival, guests may use DAS Advance up to 30 days in advance of their trip. Select reservations can also be made ahead of time by DAS Advance users. If using the DAS Advance registration, be sure to give yourself plenty of time because the virtual procedure can take several hours.

Other experiences can be selected by guests using the self-selection feature of the app. All visitors using DAS Advance must have a current ticket and current reservations for a theme park.

DAS Advice

  • Ensure that the Disney mobile app has friends linked to everyone in your group.

  • The guest who obtained the DAS pass, as well as up to five members of their party, are eligible to use it.

  • Customers using the service do not immediately access the experiences because return times are comparable to the current wait periods at the attractions.

  • If you don't have access to your mobile device or don't have one at all, you can still use the prior method by going in person to guest services.

  • Disney Genie+ paid a la carte attractions or virtual lineups are also available to guests utilizing DAS.
You must currently be scanned into the park you want to make reservations at if you're park hopping.

How effective is DAS in actual use?

Andres Gonzalez, a frequent visitor to the parks, says, "The ease of being able to acquire your return times directly from the app rather than having to get them from the cast members at the attraction, cannot be ignored." It greatly simplifies planning a day in and around a park. It's a big blessing for people with mobility challenges because it saves you time traveling to the destination. It's wonderful to have that extra flexibility because attractions don't always provide the finest nearby surroundings to wait for your return time.

Becca Robbins, a frequent visitor to Disneyland, explains, "Before the DAS system was shifted to the app, we might have to send one adult to run halfway across the park to get a return time, leaving the other parent to amuse three children, all on the spectrum." "Now that we can choose our return times using the app, we get to spend time with our kids as we wait for rides. We may all sit down for a snack, watch a parade, or even choose another ride to ride while we wait. The DAS system enables our family to spend a Disney day together without as many meltdowns and with the flexibility to de-stimulate when necessary.
